Wide Legged Pants for Women with Short Torso

The struggle is real. Leaf 1 has short torso and short legs. We are not complaining, we are just stating facts. But we both love wide legged trousers and pants. Most wide legged pants are high-waisted because they are created for women with long legs. Unfortunately, as mentioned in the previous post (here), more than 50% of women are under 5’4″.  So what do we do if we love wide legged pants but our legs are not elongated like models and the torso is just a tad bit too short?

Here are a few tips we found if you’re on the same boat as us:

  1. Tuck in your shirt so that you can show off your waist! Do not pair your wide legged trousers with a top that has excess material.
  2. Vertical patterns! Vertical patterns such as the striped pants (below) can elongate your legs.
  3. The pants/trousers should sit above the belly bottom (about 1-2 inches). Avoid super high-waisted pants – these can be very unflattering, especially if your torso is short.
  4. Accessorize the pants with heels! Pointed toe heels or any heels can give you 2-4 inches!

Overall, there are a lot of fashion rules that exist for no reason, such as… if you’re short, don’t even think about walking out of your house with wide legged pants. However, if you follow tips above, you’ll be sure to add at least 2-4 inches to your height AND you’ll look amazing doing so! Culotte pants are your other options, as previously posted here!

  1. I have really enjoyed reading all your posts! What do you recommend for tall women when wearing wide-legged pants? Shirt tucked in? Heels or flats? Your thoughts….

    1. Thank you so much Karen! Yes, if you want to accentuate your waist, then tucking in your shirt would be a great idea! You can also use a belt to cinch the waist area if tucking in your shirt is not an option. If you’re tall (and don’t want to look any taller), then wearing flats would be ideal –> Very envious as this is such a good, effortless, and casual look.
